 Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport is huge - so when leaving Amsterdam, give yourself enough time to get to your plane! Enough time means factoring in a 15 minute wait at passports and a 20 minute walk to the gate. So all in all be there at least an hour in advance.
Low-cost carriers have flights to and from Schiphol, providing a fairly economical way to city-hop to Amsterdam from other spots in Europe. As Amsterdam is a very popular destination and low-cost carriers are the obvious choice for budget travelers it is often the case that cheap flights run out quickly with these carriers and the traditional carriers will have the cheaper fares, it pays to check a number of airlines before booking to get the best deal.
